Dr. David Bartlett Helps Lead Surgical Oncology Collaboration Between UPMC and Kazakhstan

 

As part of UPMC’s partnership between University Medical Center (UMC) and Nazarbayev University (NU) in Kazakhstan, Dr. David Bartlett, a world-renowned surgical oncologist and pioneer in the development of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemoperfusion, visited UMC in Astana to participate in the training master course “Innovations in Oncology Round Table” on March 15, 2018.

Surgery Faculty Achievements Celebrated at 2018 Honors Convocation

The University of Pittsburgh paid tribute to the outstanding achievements of its faculty and students during their 42nd annual Honors Convocation on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Music Hall in Oakland.

Friends and Colleagues Bid Farewell to Renowned Surgical Oncologist Dr. Herbert Zeh

 

After an exceptional 16 years with our department, Herbert J. Zeh III, MD, FACS will be leaving at the end of March 2018 to join the faculty at University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center Hall as Mary Lucile Shannon Distinguished Chair in Surgery. A Farewell Reception was held on March 1, 2018 at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center to honor Dr. Zeh’s outstanding accomplishments in research and medicine since joining our faculty in 2002. UPMC Commends Department Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers for Excellence

Congratulations to our following doctors and advanced practice providers who made UPMC’s Fiscal Year 2017 Excellence in Patient Experience, Physician and Medical Staff Honor Roll. This annual award is given to providers with at least 10 survey responses who consistently achieve a 9-10 rating in the “Rate provider” domain on Press Ganey’s Clinician and Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CGCAHPS) survey. This survey measures patients’ perceptions of care delivered by providers in an office setting.

Dr. Herbert Zeh on KDKA Radio Segment on Pancreatic Cancer

 

On October 30, 2017, Drs. Herbert J. Zeh III, Randall Brand (Dept. of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition), and Nathan Bahary (Dept. of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology) were invited to KDKA Radio to discuss pancreatic cancer. KDKA AM talk show host Mike Pintek, who announced on his radio program that he was being treated for pancreatic cancer, devoted two hours of his daytime show to help inform the public about this disease.

Dr. Steven Evans Honored for Fund Raising Efforts

Dr. Steven Evans Participates in 2017 Real Man Wear Pink Campaign

 

Surgical oncologist Steven Evans, MD has joined forces with the American Cancer Society to battle breast cancer for the 2017 Real Man Wear Pink Campaign.  The campaign was born out of a desire for men to have a unique way to help in the fight against breast cancer. Real Men Wear Pink allows communities to nominate local male leaders to spearhead fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society's breast cancer initiatives. Every dollar raised supports the American Cancer Society's mission to save lives from breast cancer.
