From Exploration to Validation: Proteomic Exploratory Analysis and Validation of Ruptured AAA Mortality Prediction Scoring Systems

Date

June 14, 2022 - 10:00am to 11:30am

Event Description

Presenter: Dr. Shimena Li

Dr. Li  will discuss two projects on opposite ends of the exploration-validation spectrum. The first project is an exploratory analysis exploring tissue-specific injury biomarker trajectories using plasma proteomics from the PAMPer and STAAMP trial. Dr. Li's group has identified that tissue-specific injury biomarker patterns are associated with patient outcome and that cardiac injury markers in particular remain elevated at 72 hours in patients with complicated clinical courses following injury. Further, they have explored circulating cardiac metabolites patterns across patient outcome groups and correlations of tissue-specific injury biomarkers with these metabolites, and inflammatory cytokines. She will then shift to a clinical project which aims to externally-validated seven mortality prediction scoring systems for ruptured AAA. Overall, they identify that these scoring systems do not accurately predict risk of mortality in their cohort and suggest that these scoring systems be cautiously applied to clinical practice.
