UPMC Hillman “Rush to Crush Cancer” Fundraiser

Rush to Crush Cancer benefitting UPMC Hillman Cancer Center

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, in partnership with P3R, announced their inaugural “Rush to Crush Cancer,” a new fundraising biking event to accelerate the pace of discovery and innovation in cancer research. The event’s goal is to bring people together to pedal, partner, and participate in raising vital funds to support cancer research and someday soon "crush" cancer.

Dr. Michael Lotze to Receive 2021 SITC Lifetime Achievement Award

Congratulations to Michael T. Lotze, MD, who has been selected to receive the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Immunotherapy for Cancer (SITC) in recognition of his outstanding service and leadership and dedication to advancing the society’s mission and vision.

Dr. Samer Tohme Wins 3rd Community Liver Alliance Research Grant

Congratulations to surgical oncology fellow Samer T. Tohme, MD, who was a winner of the 3rd Community Liver Alliance Research Grant in the amount of $25,000 for his research project “Mechanisms of Metastatic Progression after Liver Ischemia-Reperfusion.” The Community Liver Alliance presented a check to Dr. Tohme at their Board of Directors meeting on December 17, 2019.

Dr. Daniel Coit Presents 2019 Donald Blechman Lecture in Surgical Oncology

Daniel G. Coit, MD, Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, presented the eighth annual 2019 Donald Blechman Lecture in Surgical Oncology on September 25, 2019. His lecture was titled, “The Evolving Understanding of Regional Lymph Nodes in Surgical Oncology.”

 

Renowned Breast Cancer Surgeon to Join Department

Dr. Norman Wolmark

 

Norman Wolmark, MD, a prominent surgeon and cancer researcher, will be joining the department as Professor of Surgery in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In addition, he will serve in a new position at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center as Director of National Cancer Institute Cooperative Group Clinical Trials. He will retain his role as Chairman of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project and as contact principal investigator of NRG Oncology.
