General Surgery/Trauma Group Enjoy Pittsburgh Pirates Game at PNC Park

 

On Friday, May 18, a group of faculty and staff from the Division of General/Trauma/Acute Care Surgery gathered for an evening of fun to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the San Diego Padres at PNC Park. Unfortunately, the Pirates lost (3-2), but the group still enjoyed the evening, which included fireworks.

   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Surgery Faculty Achievements Celebrated at 2018 Honors Convocation

The University of Pittsburgh paid tribute to the outstanding achievements of its faculty and students during their 42nd annual Honors Convocation on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Music Hall in Oakland.

General Surgery/Trauma Faculty and Staff Coordinate Winter Clothing Donation

Faculty and staff of the Division of General/Trauma/Acute Care Surgery showed their holiday spirit by donating of a Christmas tree full of scarves, hats, and gloves to Charitable Causes of St. Athanasius Parish in the North Hills. The donations will go to the elderly of the parish and Michael's Place, a home for transition men finding their way after leaving prison.

UPMC Commends Department Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers for Excellence

Congratulations to our following doctors and advanced practice providers who made UPMC’s Fiscal Year 2017 Excellence in Patient Experience, Physician and Medical Staff Honor Roll. This annual award is given to providers with at least 10 survey responses who consistently achieve a 9-10 rating in the “Rate provider” domain on Press Ganey’s Clinician and Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CGCAHPS) survey. This survey measures patients’ perceptions of care delivered by providers in an office setting.

Dr. Matthew Neal Receives Jacobson Promising Investigator Award

 

Congratulations to Matthew D. Neal, MD, who is the 2017 recipient of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Jacobson Promising Investigator Award.

The $30,000 Joan L. and Julius H. Jacobson II Promising Investigator Award was established to recognize outstanding surgeons engaging in research, advancing the art and science of surgery, and demonstrating early promise of significant contribution to the practice of surgery and the safety of surgical patients.
