Research, Clinical, and/or Academic Interests

  • Immune Tolerance and Immunoregulation in allograft and autoimmune settings: Studies include mice and non-human primates and utilize antibodies targeting various cell surface receptors to probe the immune system and promote tolerance through induction of regulatory cells

  • Regulatory T cells: Murine and non-human primate studies evaluate novel mechanisms to induce Tregs in vivo through ligation of CD45 and the induction of Treg:DC interactions.

  • Regulatory and Effector B cells: Murine studies examine the role of Beff and Bregs in Autoimmunity, Transplantation, and Cancer.  Studies are focused on: identification of Breg and Beff cells through TIM-1 and TIM-4 expression as well as cytokine expression; mechanisms of Breg induction; and mechanisms of action of Bregs and Beff cells in vivo.  non-human primate studies aim to expand Bregs in vivo and ex vivo to promote tolerance.  Human translational studies aim to longitudinally and prospectively evaluate B cell inflammatory vs. regulatory cytokines as a biomarker for rejection and long-term outcomes. Based on promising studies of Breg/Beff ratio in renal allograft patients, a clinical trial is anticipated.
