A Clinical and Epidemiological Potpourri / The Transcriptomic Response of Immune Cells to Surgical Stress in Young and Aged People

Date

October 19, 2021 - 9:00am

Event Description

"A Clinical and Epidemiological Potpourri "

Presenter: Dr. Katherine Hrebinko (Advisors: Drs. Anita Courcoulas and Christine Leeper)

Dr. Hrebinko will start by discussing her progress on the ancillary cost effectiveness analysis of the ARMMS-T2D trial and then briefly discuss plans for a cost-effectiveness of various smoking cessation programs prior to elective revascularization for claudication. She will then present the results of a study completed under the direction of Dr. Leeper on sexual dimorphisms in coagulation characteristics in the pediatric trauma population, time allowing.

"The Transcriptomic Response of Immune Cells to Surgical Stress in Young and Aged People"

Dr. Jillian Bonaroti (Advisor: Dr. Timothy Billiar)

As the population ages, the rate of surgical procedures being performed in aged patients rises. It has been well demonstrated that age imparts elevated risk of surgical morbidity and mortality. Dr. Bonaroti's group hypothesizes that age-related differences in the immune response to surgical stress play a role. During her talk, she will update the group on her group's progress in this project and talk about upcoming experiments.
