An Aging-Related Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism is Associated with Altered Clinical Outcomes and Distinct Inflammatory Profiles in Aged Blunt Trauma Patients

Date

Event Description

Presenter: Ashley Lamparello (Advisors: T. Billiar / Y. Vodovotz)

The population of patients sustaining trauma and for whom we provide care is becoming increasingly aged; in general, this population exhibits worse outcomes that are not fully explained by the process of aging alone. Ashley and her colleagues have found significant differences between aged blunt trauma patients with the minor allele of an aging-related SNP compared to those with the homozygous major allele, suggesting that genetic variants are major contributors to clinical outcomes and biomarker network patterns seen after traumatic injury.
