Presenter: Callie Hlavin, MD (mentor: Anita Courcoulas, MD, MPH)
As we continually strive to improve equitable access to high quality care, Dr. Hlavin will present findings from two clinical projects: “Total Telemedicine Pathway (TTP) in Bariatric Surgery” and “Barriers to Bariatric Surgery: Defining Obstacles Between Referral and Surgery.”
Presenter: Elizabeth Pace, MD (mentor: Michael Morowitz, MD)

Presenter: Jie Fan, MD, PhD
This is a continuation of Dr. Fan's ongoing work investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of acute lung injury following trauma and sepsis.

Presenter: Dr. Tanner Wilson
With an eye on small bowel obstruction as a problem of iterative surgical decision-making, Dr. Wilson will present a smorgasbord of machine learning methods to predict failure of non-operative management. HWe will illustrate the shortcomings of one-shot prediction methods and present reinforcement learning as a meaningful alternative. Finally, he will present the many questions and challenges facing an investigator attempting to implement reinforcement learning in a high-acuity clinical context.
