Red Light Reduces Platelet Activation and Subsequent Thrombosis

Date

April 26, 2022 - 10:00am to 11:30am

Event Description

Presenter: Elizabeth Andraska, MD, MS (mentors: Drs. Matthew Neal and Matthew Rosengart)

Venous thromboembolism is common despite prophylaxis strategies. Light exposure may augment venous thrombus propagation and development. Dr. Andraska will be discussing the effects alterations in light exposure have on platelet biology, neutrophil activation, and subsequent thrombus development. In an attempt to translate these findings, she will also discuss a human corollary to altered light exposure -- intraocular lens implantation for the surgical management of cataract disease -- and the effects it has on venous thromboembolism development.

Location and Address

Virtual. Meeting invite will be shared with individuals inside the Department of Surgery. Anyone outside the department who would lke to access the lecture, please contact Erin Francis.
